Your Life is Art

I was speaking with a friend of mine who felt they had made a mistake recently. I responded with asking them, “Do you know why I love art so much?”

I shared that when I was a child, lacking the artistic experience that time and life provides, I took children art classes at the University. There, art students led the classes and shared their knowledge in ways our growing minds could grasp. The tasks were not to create large elaborate masterpieces, they were to follow a guideline for a particular project and have fun.

One drawing project caused me to become frustrated with my inability to get the exact shape I desired. I was making dark marks and erasing the whole page repeatedly. A student teacher saw my frustration and pulled me aside to help me. He said, “You don’t need to worry about making one perfect mark.” He then showed me his sketches of clowns where the strokes were many, creating a soft sketch which lended to a final line place upon the many light and soft marks. I returned to my seat and tried my best to learn the technique of sketching.

From this experience, I learned how to not become attached to the initial contour mark, but to allow my artwork to become more about the process and allowing the outcome to follow suit. Life is art in many ways and very much akin to this experience.

You need not frustrate yourself with the past, beginning or ending, but engulf yourself with the present process and beautiful changes you have the ability to create and experience.

I am here to tell you there are no mistakes, only lessons and love that has the ability to grow in any space in your life. You will make many marks, some that you like and some you dislike, but, you are not those marks. You are the artist.

My prayer for you as you read this is that you remember always that you are a beautiful soul, a magnificent artist and creator that will fill your life and others with works of love. My hope for you is that the art in your heart is seen by all, and that your light illuminates the art of life that you create in each moment.

Love and Light,

Mad Murph
